Default Larger Rims in Rear?

I've had a question that has gone unanswered for a while

Can I run 17" wheels in the front and 18" wheels in the rear?

If so, would this negatively effect the performance? Would I have to go with a lower profile tire in the rear than the front to keep the same overall tire height?

----

I'm a big Corvette guy. I love the way the staggered sizes look on the C5's. All replies are appreciated.

Diameter (most importantly), width, and combo weight are all that matters. You can run different sizes if you want. The rears need to keep the same tire diameter, though, to keep the speedometer accurate.

Here's a diameter calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

18" wheels have no real benefit though and their too big to be practical for potholes. I don't think you'll get an 18" combination that is lighter than stock. You may want to try a 17r-16f combination.

The SSR GT1 and the OZ Super legera wheel will fit the car with 17" front and 18" rear. You can see those wheels on on our web site and check the prices. If I can help let me know.
Thank you

Ken,
Yes you can and it will not hurt performance any, if done right, it will help. I have 18" x 9" OZ Superleggeras in the rear and 17" x 7" up front. The car handles and looks great. FYI, I'm running 265 35 18's in the rear and 225 45 17's up front.

I'm looking at buying SSR 18" GT3 for my stock ride height s2k. Can I put 265/35 tires on the 18x9.5 rears and not rub? I was planning to put 225/40/18 on 18"x8 fronts.

The 255/35R18 is the biggest tire we recommend for the car. The 225/40R18 and the 255/35R18 will have the same rolling diameter. The 265/35R18 I could not say for certain thay would work without modification.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you
