Default 17x8 with 255's

I'm just wondering if it would look weird if I installed a 255/40/17 tire on a 17x8 wheel with 50mm offset? Also would I rub on stock suspension?

It would pretty much sit looking stock but the tires will look a little more bulged/meaty. If that’s the look your after. Personally I think those size tires would look best on a 9-10” wheel and likely handle a little sharper.

Here are a few pics of a 255 star spec mounted on a 17x8 +35 kosei k1-ts on my RX8.

They do fold in a bit, and the sidewall stiffness was lacking compared to a 255 on a 9" wide wheel, but its very doable.

If you plan on tracking you will risk tire seperation from the rim. 235 is about max for a 8" wide rim

The 255 tires do recommend a 8.5 width wheel whether it is 18" or 17". You are stretching the tires to fit the 8" wide wheel. It can be done but the tire manufacturers do not recommend it.
