Default 17x8 rim?

What's the widest tire size that can be put on this rim. I realize that the ideal size is 225. Can I go wider.

This is a good question for the Wheel & Tire Forum. And I believe if you look in the offset FAQ in that forum it will give you a guide.

ive tried 255 on a 8 and it actually looked very nice how the rubber was mounted fatty. Kinda reminded me of one of those high hp supra setups.

Thanks, to me putting a 225 tire on the rear just seems small for this car, even though it's recommended. I'm purchasing a set of rims that are 17x7 front and 17x8 rear, so I was just wondering what tire set up to get. Any recommendations. I was thinking 215 45 17 front and 245 40 17 rear.

You need to read this thread. Rim size, offset and stagger are all important.
