I'm thinking of using 18" wheels on the S, whats your view, as in the UK its a big nono!!!!!

They work fine on the car. It depends on what you are looking for out of the package. The 17" will give you better ride quality and the wheels are less likely to get bent. The 18" is going to have a more aggessive look with quicker turn in response.
There is no right and wrong answer to which is better. Both will work.

Thanks for the advice, its just i love the look but i also like to throw the car around country roads so i didnt want to upset the car!
