If all ya want to do is lower the car just use shorter, lowering springs, ya don't need aftermarket adjustable coilovers.

I sent mine back to Ohlins for a rebuild. Took about 3 weeks including shipping (time depends on how busy they are and what sort of shipping you do) and I was responsible for shipping. I wouldn't say they need frequent rebuilds though; my shocks had 40k+ miles and track time on them and apparently were fine. Total cost including shipping was right over $1k.

 

My rebuild was less than half of that, maybe $400 at most.

 

Long story, but I actually had them rebuilt and revalved cheaper by a local guy that was supposedly authorized by Ohlins. Car was awful when they came back. After lots of back and forth between him and some other knowledgeable shops he did something wrong. I reached out to Sakebomb Garage and PSI in NorCal. PSI's quote price was actually higher than Ohlins USA for the rebuild, and Sakebomb actually recommended I send the shocks to Ohlins given the issues I was having and the fact I was looking for a stock rebuild.

So yeah, Ohlins rebuilds are not cheap. I wonder if $400 is standard for KWs because that sounds ridiculously cheap. I would have expected about 50% more at least.

 

KW rebuilds happen a lot more frequently from what I have seen though. 40k miles street and track is a healthy amount of use. Hardly frequent.

 

Its not that Ohlins require rebuilds more often than other quality coilovers, rather that Bilsteins are just way more durable.

The trade off is seals that last longer, but have more stiction.

It was actually only $320 for both dampers to be rebuilt. $30 was for an extra adjustment kit, cause I lost mine at the time:
