Default 225/40 - 245/35

hey, Im buying tiers for my wheels front is 7,5" and rear is 8.5" if I go with 225 front and 245 rear will it change my handling from stock 215&245? Or is it much better to get a 255 for the rear?

thanks

It's going to change it a huge amount, more or less depending on the tread width, but still a ton.

Take for example the two sets of tires Jenny and I have on our two S's:

Mine run 205 front with a 7" tread width and 225 rear with an 8" tread width (came from the car lot this way), so my tires are twitchy, with great turn-in and a loose but predictable rear end. (actually, it's dead simple to feel exactly when the rear will walk out on me. car feels nice and neutral)

Jenny (g/f) has the stock 215/245 RE050's, with 6.7" front and 9" rear. That's over two full inches of stagger, compared to my one inch. Her tires feel very easy to control, but compared to mine have miserable turn-in and cause the back end to be unresposive. The stock stagger makes the car much safer, but less fun.

Just for fun, we threw her tires on my car and mine on hers for a week. I hate her tires. Hate hate hate. Putting mine back on today. She isn't too fond of my tires, but she has learned to be a better driver because of them.

If you aren't familiar with how to properly handle RWD cars, running a smaller stagger can result in throwing you into a wall. Lift oversteer and power sliding become things you must consider around every single corner.

For most people I'd recommend sticking with the stock stagger, and running 40mm width difference (if you don't know the exact tread width) on non-OEM tires. 205mm fronts for 245mm rears, or 215 fronts for 255 rears. Those widths in non-OEM tires will keep the stagger similar to stock.

For me, I'll keep my stagger down to around 1". Oversteer is my friend!

Synchro is correct. It is hard to tell exactly what is going to happen but certain tires will respond in a certain way. The OE stagger is quite a bit at 1.3" on the AP2. Depending on the individual tire you may end up with different sizes front to rear. I would say that more often than not I would go with the 255/40R17 rear if you go with the wider front tires.
If I can help let me know.
