Default 225/45/17 and 255/40/17

Thinking about getting some new summer tires and have read good things about the Dunlop Star Specs. According to the wheel fitment guide it appears that I should have no problem replacing my stock tires with the 225 in the front and 255 in the back. However, the offsets seem lower than the recommended offsets.

I would like to know what others' driving impressions are with the above sized tires vs stock tire sizes. I am at factory height. I don't believe I will have any rubbing issues. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks for your help.

I have the starspecs 225/255. No rubbing. It feels good, more grip. However I did have to do alignment to have more camber in the rear because the car will want to oversteer more with the 225 in the front.

Thanks. Do you have any idea what your alignment specs are? Did you get the alignment done immediately after changing the tires?

The alignment specs that I use on my car is -2 camber in the front, -2.2 camber in the rear, 0 toe in the front, and 1/4" total toe-in in the rear.

why would you get an alignment after getting tires? This tire setup is so common and you could have found that out if you would have searched a little more.

I know the setup is common for some wheels and I have searched. If you read the 2nd post you would see that Mr. Fixit had an alignment done b/c of the 225 in the front causing oversteer.

Appreciate if you have something relevant to add then add, if not, then don't.

inlignment is NOT nessecary. unless you changed the height of the car. I went with the same setup and had no problems. Actually the car felt alot more stable in the corners. so yes my answer was very relavent. I just hate seeing a new thread about something that has been discussed over and over.

You should get an alignment when you put on new tires to make sure everything is still in spec and your tires wont wear unevenly. My alignment settings in the front is caster 6.6, camber -.9 degrees, and 0 toe. Rear camber is -2.7 degrees. Toe is just factory specs all around(dont remember what the spec for rear is off the top of my head).

Seems interesting that this thread has been posted and reposted several times, yet obviously people have different opinions on whether an alignment is needed when going to a different tire size.

I had a question, so I simply asked it. Its people like you that discourage others from posting their questions. There has always gotta be that one guy... Oh well.

Maybe I will clear it with you before I post a question next time.

I run those sizes in Sumitomo HTRZ3s on stock AP2 v.1 wheels. I also run UK alignment specs. Suspension is stock, so no rubbing issues. I like it, but I'd like it more if the stock front wheel was 7.5" instead of 7".
