Thumbs up 245 tire on 8" wheel?

I'm having a heck of a time finding rims I like. I'm trying to move up to 17" wheels (AP1). I'm looking for 5-spoke wheels that are as light as possible (less than or equal to 20lbs). Unfortunately, most 5-spoke wheels on the market are either 30lbs per wheel, or only offered in one size (17x7 usually).

Ideally I had been looking for 17x7.5 for the front and 17x8.5 for the rear, but was willing to take 17x8 and 17x9. However, most staggered 17" 5-spoke wheels are only offered in 17x7 and 17x8 (with adequate offsets).

I'm getting tired of searching.

So, now I'm curious to find out what a 245 tire will look like on an 8" wheel. I know what they look like on an 8.5" wheel because my old VR-4 and our new AP2 both have the same tire and wheel width. My concern is that on an 8.5" wheel a 245 tire fits and looks perfect - no billowing out at all. By removing .5" of wheel width, I'm concerned that the tire would bulge out from the rim. I want a nice, flat surface from rim to tread, so if an 8" wide wheel won't cut it, I need to know.

245s on an 8 is probably the widest you could go. Ideally, a 235 would be the best fit on an 8" wide wheel. if you are going with 7s up fronts and 8s in the rear, it would be good to run the 215/45 and 235/40 Falken RT615s.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll be looking into different wheels then.

You can run a 245/205-215 combo on a 7 and 8 all day. Technically, the rear tire size IS a 245 since the Potenza S02 225 is equivalent to a 245
