255-40-17

im buying new wheels and im not sure whats suites better for the rear wheels on 255 tire size?

please help.

i think a 255 will fit better on the 9 than on the 8.5, just my IMO...but with either width rim the 255 should be fine....

what makes me confused is that with the stock 7.5inch rim people run 245-45-16 and its fine. would a 9 inch rim be more suited with 265 rather than just 255?

Except you wouldn't be able to find 265/35/17 which closer to the diameter of the stock wheel and tire. Stock diameter is 24.6"

265/40/17 is about 25.5" tall

255 on 9" wheel is just about perfect.
