Default Advise Please!

I just bought my 2nd s2 & its supercharged; I'd like to run 275's on the rear for traction. 17 x 10 + 72's wheels with 275 40 17 tires

To keep the handling of the car would 245 45 17 work on the front - on a 17 x 9 +63 wheel?

Experience mean everything - tell me what I don't know

Shawn

People do run those sizes on the car. They are going to be taller than stock but with that high of an offset you should be good. If I can help with the tires let me know.

I'd love to hear your opinion on tires. I am driving an 01 with bridgestone 960 all season. I think they perform wonderfully.
I have recently bought a 07 with twice the horsepower. it comes with dunlap Direzza sport 225 / 255 which are well worn. I live in Cleveland where there's
alot of rain and drive daily. I am considering going to 10" rims on the rear sporting 275's.
To be clear the 01 will be sold as soon as the snow's gone - I may drive the 07 next winter if the power is not a problem. So point me (i've also been looking at the all season continental dw or dws).
I know this is alot of info. Ask me any thing that helps you choose....

Thanks

If you're going to 275's for traction, but get all-season tires to replace the Dunlop Direzza Sport (Z1 Star Spec, no?), you're giving up way more grip in tire make/model than you're gaining in tread width.
WAY more.

If you want maximum grip in the warm months, you're going to want serious performance tires, which all-seasons emphatically ain't.

You might consider going with two sets of wheels tires, one for the warmer months and another set for the Winter.

Also, not many of the best/grippiest tires come in 275/40-17. You could go with 265/40-17 rear (coming soon?), 245/40-17 front Dunlop StarSpecs, that's probably what I'd do.

if you *really* want 275s, better tire selection in 18" wheels.

ok - two sets of tires, one summer / one winter; is dunlap star spec coming out in a 265 sometime in the future?? would you balance those with 245's in the front - do you think that would be enought stager?

thanks

Jim might have an idea when the 265 *Specs are coming.

I wouldn't worry too much about 245/265 stagger on an '07 AP2, but then again for street usage, I'm kind of a fan of relatively skinnier front tires.
You might consider 235/45-17 or 225/45-17 fronts as well.
I might even consider 235/40-17, but they'd be nearly an inch shorter than the 265/40-17 rears (more front braking bias).
