Default alignment questions

i posted this in the suspension section but got no response. maybe that was the wrong section?

anyways, i did a bit of search and I keep getting stuff about UK alignment specs, but then I read somewhere there are no UK alignment specs for AP2 because the tail-happiness is toned down, so I am not sure what to go with.

So my S2k is a 07, stock suspension, stock front tires 8k miles with new Sumitomo HTR Z 3 in the rear. any alignment recs or should I just go with the UK version? uk specs reproduced below for reference

Front
Caster Left 6° 45"
Caster Right 6° 45"
Camber Left -1° 00"
Camber Right -1° 00"
Toe Left 0° 0"
Toe Right 0° 0"
Total Toe 0° 0"

Rear
Camber Left -2° 00"
Camber Right -2° 00"
Toe Left 0° 20"
Toe Right 0° 20"
Total Toe 0° 40"

That's a good alignment setup for a street car that sees some track usage, but might be a bit much rear toe.

Personally, just run max front and rear camber on my dd S2000 that I track sometimes. At the moment it's only -1* front camber and -2.3* rear. I run zero front toe and 0.1 - 0.2* total rear toe (which is on the low side of spec).

IMO 2x 20" = 40" total of rear toe (2x 0.33* = 0.66* total) seems excessive.

thanks for the reply, but should AP1 alignments differ significantly from AP2? I notice you have an AP1 in your sig. right now, i am leaning towards max caster front, max camber everywhere, and like you said, just a bit of toe, .2 degree each side in the rear, .4 total

AP1, AP2, CR all use the same Factory alignment settings for US spec cars. IMO the UK spec is not agressive enough for track duty with grippy tires (RE01R, Star specs, RE-11's, etc) UK specs for maybe a little more responsive street car. If you max out the rear camber you won't be able to run that toe setting. I think I maxed out the rear with OEM parts around -3.4 degrees. If you're lowered you'll get a little more. But you'll only get about .24 - .28 toe, and not get it dialed out.

We set a MY05 to -1.4 F, 0 toe, -2.3 R, .2 toe and it was very competitive at the last autocross on stock suspension and CR sized Kumho XS tires.

^^ hmm seems like ZDAN and your setting are pretty similar. i think i'll go with, for the fronts, max caster, 1.5 camber, no toe, and for the rear, -2.5 R and .2 toe total. (want a little extra camber... can't hurt right?) and when we say 1.5 camber or .2 toe, that is degrees from perfectly aligned right?

actually, i'll just go with -1.3 camber and 0 toe and max caster for the front, then -2.3 camber and .2 toe total for the rear. thanks guys!

-1.3 F, -2.5 R does wonders for autoX times...especially with good tires...

Not bad on the daily tires either.

Not quite right. According to the service manual, AP2's have 3.7mm rear toe, and the AP1's have 6mm rear toe.

Hm. The alignment setting are stored in the alignment computer and you can modify them if needed. The settings are the same. Thanks for the heads up.
