AP1 wheels on AP2 S2k for track use
I am going to start making some track events with my s2k. I don't want to risk damaging my new wheels so I figured picking up some AP1 wheels would be a good choice because they're light and R comp will be cheaper for them.
My question is, will going from the staggered setup to a non staggered setup really throw things off? Current wheel/tire combination is the original 215/50f and 245/40r
I plan on using Hankook Z211 in 225/50/16 all around.
Thanks

Only very experienced driver/racers with heavily modified cars can use that setup effectively and be fast and safe at the track.
Ohh, and I have more than 10 track days experience and I am Not one of them.

well what can I do with a set of ap1 wheels tire wise to not upset the delicate balance by much?
I would try to keep the staggered "footprint" as close to stock AP2's footprint.
AP2's are 17x7 with 215/45 fronts and 17x8.5 with 245/40 rears.
AP1's are 16x6.5 with 205/55 fronts and 16x7.5 with 225/50 rears.
So, I would try to go with 215/50R16 in the front and 245/45R16 on the rear. Now, finding matching sets with those sizes could be a challenge.

Virtually EVERYONE who runs OEM AP1 wheels in AS SOLO or for track use runs a 225/245 or a 225/265 tire combo. No need to reinvent the wheel, this is SOP for the S2000 with AP1 wheels for the the last 7 years. That and a front swaybar will GREATLY increase turn in cornering ability.
225/245 would be the Hoosier A6 and 225/265 would be Kumho V710. Be aware that the 265 in the back does rub (on the fender liner I believe) and can wear down some plastic tabs back there.
If you want more of a track tire/something you can drive on the streets to and from events, check out the Toyo RA1. Thats what I'm currently using (in 225/245 stagger) and its much better than trying to tough it out on street tires.
