RA1 sounds great. I ran those once on my M3... but I used to buy them from www.bimmerworld.com where they would sell slightly used ones for like 100 a piece, but only in one fitment. Know anywhere I can get some used ra1s? or even the hoosiers?

Did they run the OE tires as well? I'm thinking even if with stickier tires running a similar width tire as the ap2 wheel then performance will be equal or better. In the end I don't think it will matter too much as I have only been to a handfull of track events so I'm still a novice.

225/245 would be the Hoosier A6 and 225/265 would be Kumho V710. Be aware that the 265 in the back does rub (on the fender liner I believe) and can wear down some plastic tabs back there.

If you want more of a track tire/something you can drive on the streets to and from events, check out the Toyo RA1. Thats what I'm currently using (in 225/245 stagger) and its much better than trying to tough it out on street tires.
I run 275/40 Hoosiers A6 on AP2 wheels with no rubbing issues at all. I do get a small amount of rub on the front 245/40 Hoosiers.

same delimna here. ap1 wheels can be had for less than 200 bucks. Is there a height difference between ap1/ap2 wheels running stock size tires ? of course there will be more sidewall flex, but is there any other negative in running 16inch wheels on a ap2 ?

Virtually EVERYONE who runs OEM AP1 wheels in AS SOLO or for track use runs a 225/245 or a 225/265 tire combo. No need to reinvent the wheel, this is SOP for the S2000 with AP1 wheels for the the last 7 years. That and a front swaybar will GREATLY increase turn in cornering ability.
how do you fit such a wide tire on a small wheel?

can you show me that video? I want to see if they have some kind of explanation, because i don't really get it? Shouldn't it be as long as your running the same contact patch or more, you should get same amount of grip, but better performance because of less weight right? Or do i not make any sense, lol can someone please explain.

So because the AP1 came with 16's anybody that put 17's or 18's on is a retard? Or because the AP2 came with 17's its foolish to buy a set up 18' wheels? *hits self in head*

You will be fine on the track with a set of AP1 wheels. I know plenty of AP2 guys that have done exactly what you want to. Except, not 225's all around. Go with a 225/245 stagger. Some guys will run 245's all around and remove the rear sway bar...but I haven't talked to them enough after they did that to find out if they liked it or not.

I run 225/245 stagger with street tires on my AP1 and it is a little more twitchy then stock...but the extra width up front makes for better braking and ability to run higher pressues in the front for still quick turn in and steering response.

I'm really having trouble finding a matching set of track tires in 225f 245r

What are you running?
