Default Autocross Setup - Right Wheel/Rims

Looking at setting up for autocross/solo II and think I want to run 245/40/17s all round.

From the sticky on wheel fitment guide, for 245 tires, the minimum offset is +63 for the front rim.

Does this mean that +65 would work, but +58 wouldn't. Or, is it the reverse.

Guess I'm confuse on how offset works.

I belive it is reverse because in order to clear bigger calipers I was told i need lower offset.

What size rim are we going to be using? Some people like non-staggered and some don't,I'd check it out before doing anything.Might not like it I've read that to take full advantage of the non-staggered set up,you have to the driving skills to induce over/understeer at will.Modding can be a can of worms, you do one thing and then you have to do another to compensate for it.

+63 minimum means +63 would work, and +58 (which is LESS than 63, the MINIMUM) will likely rub.

Fitment for a big brake kit is a different question.

If you're setting up for autoX, the first question is what class you intend to run. If stock, you'll have to run stock wheel widths and offsets within ~5mm of stock.

Stock, you'd likely want to run 225/45 fronts and 255/40-17 rears.
(although some run 245/40 fronts and 275/40 rears which are way outside the recommended size window for stock 7" and 8.5" wheels!).

If not stock, 245/40-17s up front with 255/40-17 rears, or 255's all around, or maybe 275/40 rears.

Also forgot to mention ... the alignment would be a bit different ... probably -2 camber front & rear. And, 1/8 to 1/4 toe on the rear.

Think this kind of throws the tables off.

Doing a little research, the rims should probably be 17x8.5 with an offset of +50.

Am I on the right track??

(Note: Class would be the new STR -- right now at least, don't think the rules care about offset ... just can't be more than 8.5 on the rim width.)

I would want more offset for the fronts in order to run 255s or at least 245s.

Doing a little research, the rims should probably be 15x8.5 with an offset of +50.

For ST-R, probably would want 17s to have the most tire choices.
