AutoX Tires...
ok, so i am going to get serious in auto X but my tires r horrible. For starters, i have bottom line bridgeston G009 on the back with a UTQG of 460. enough said, and the fronts don't even have a rating on them. At least they r the correct sizes.
So, I am buying a second set of stock rims to mount race tires on them. What is best for the AP1 rims?
Also, what are some equivilant brand names to the best so i could at least price qoute some.
And another thing, is it possible to have tires too sticky on a stock S2K for AutoX'ing?

The AutoX FAQ Thread has all the auto-x setup info you need, including talk about tires.
You could also go to autocrosses and ask the other S2k drivers what tires they have...they will be willing to tell you. I used to live in Jacksonville...there are a lot of friendly S2k folks autocrossing there.

Hands down, the best are Hoosiers.
But Ryan, I don't recommend you go to r-compounds just yet since you were in your 1st autox last weekend!
Back when I would instruct autox, I would teach students to "go fast slowly". I would say that to the guys who would try to go WOT all the way through the course right out of the box and those who immediately wanted to make their car faster before they made themselves faster. You have a lot you can still learn on street tires. R-compounds can drop your time, but they will also hide your mistakes.
You do need some better street tires though! Unfortunately, there are not a lot of choices for the AP1. Honestly, I would recommend you go ahead and shell out money for the OEM Bridgestone S02. They are very sticky and work well. They won't last long autoxing them. But they will last long enough to prepare you for r-compounds.
Also, if you go with r-compounds you will also want to pick up a front swaybar.
BTW...I'll be selling my black ap1 wheels this month if you are interested.

A slightly less expensive option for street tires instead of the OEM S-02's would be Hankook RS2's. Can get them in 205/55, 225/50 and 245/45 so depending on the setup you want, you have the options.
I dont think they'll be as good as the S-02's but they will be cheaper and should last longer as well. Get the S-02's if you can afford them, Hankooks if not. Once they're worn out, enter the world of R-comps.
Negcamber, I know I'm not local like the OP is, but how much would you be selling the wheels for? I'm looking for a second set for autox.

I haven't really decided on a price yet. I'll send you a PM when they are up for sale. I need to give them a respray to make them presentable. They've been race wheels and then daily street wheels for a while, so really need touching up.
