Those are two different things: street versus track.

Both would appear to be low-treadwear street tires.

A curiosity from the Tire Rack website, the RE070 is listed in the "3rd tier" of performance (ultra high performance), whereas the RE050 falls into the 2nd tier (maxium performance). How can that be, with Honda clearly marketing the 70 as an upgraded tire choice for the CR?

For comparison, the RE-01R in the top "extreme performance" category.

Sorry, I didn't see the thread that discussed this previously... did Jim or anyone else provide an explanation?

Only in his original answer, way up near the top.

So these should be available in late October.

There was a Best Motoring Video in July 2007 comparing RE070 and Re01-r on a twistie track using the new Civic Type-R. 070 edges 01-r in lap time. (Btw, in the video, the S2000 got spanked by the Civic type-r, integra type-r, and 350z )

Yes, Best Motoring rules! Their classic track test was the 16-inch versus 17-inch rim test on two years of Miata. The 16" won every time - no matter which car it was mounted on.

I autocrossed my Tc with the factory Yokohamas then a buddy lended me a set of re070's and I knocked off 2 seconds. I personally have RE-01R's on the S2k and I think they may be of the same compounds, 01r's just have a more agressive design and from what I've heard the compound changes when you get them worn down to a certain point. Sides are silica etc etc...
