BM or BMI? BM can test this type of thing but only to an extent... BMI misses a lot of technical data in their translation and editing. And if BM gave it only their usual couple-of-laps testing, the results are not meaningful to road racers or HPDE'ers. A 20- minute session is a lot different than a 3-lap session when we're talking temps.
And none of this says anything about any quantifiable testing. The data that Bridgestone presented for the RE11 is a lot more meaningful, even though we don't have the full translation.
My thinking is that Bridgestones intent is for the RE11 to replace the RE-01R. How it compares to the RE070 is another question.. .that tire has been around a while. It could have ended up on the CR for any number of reasons... either it works better, they liked it from past experience, that could buy it in the necessary quantities, they got a better price on it, Bridgestone provided incentive, or ????
I'm thinking just form eyeballing it that it would work better on the track due to the larger contact patches, where the RE01R or RE11 could start to chunk when temps raise. Of course, on the street, the RE070 wouldn't work anywhere near as well in wet conditions as the RE01R or RE11.
We need a scientific test of all three tires. The Tire Rack has the wherewithall to do this. Hint, Jim.....
Twas BMI 21. They do lose a lot of info. They mentioned that the 070 had a much better turn in feel. Thats why I said I'd like to see better testing. I also think RE11 will end up replacing the RE01R.

BMI seems to be all but obsolete.
BM, however, is going strong and I get the latest tape every month.
Also note I have on my website a link and a method to getting the BM videos directly from Japan. While they're in Japanese, you won't have to waste your time only getting a tiny fraction of the complete information via BMI. BM, has for example, already tested the JDM variant that is roughly analogous to the S2000 CR (more softly tuned, and has RE050s) and that was a very interesting test indeed.

So, the RE01R would be a better DD tire than the RE070?...ie, rain, crappy roads, etc.
Certainly the RE01R would be better for rain - take a look at the image below.

I was extremely psyched to pick up the RE07's but it appears they will not come in any other size. Meanwhile I tried running 255 RE050App rear with 215 RE050 front and it was not a pleasant experience. It just didn't feel right.

Now that I have r-comps for track only, I wouldn't put that much stagger on my street setup.

When are the RE11 coming out? RE01R or RE050App in 245/215 will be my next street setup.

I heard the RE11's will be in Japan sometime this year. Who knows if and when we'd get them. Sounds like an interesting tire, especially about that asymmetric sidewall design. I'd love to see them sold here.

Per the above, it looks like Jim has them now!
Personally, I've given up on RE050s - I don't like the way they wear, or handle extended heat either on the track or on a warm climate.

I'm actually very impressed with them. Especially at the track.

What similar tire would you suggest that last as long and handles as well?

IMHO, RE01R is much better than the RE050s.
