Default BADLY need good snow tires

Hi all... I own a 2003 S2000 and shortly after buying it, had to move. Now I have a 40-mile commute to work each way -- a combo of turnpike and hilly, winding side-road driving. That's awesome in the summer, but I assume that if I want to survive the Cleveland fall & winter, I'll have to invest in some serious snow tires.

Any recommendations? Since my life is on the line, money is no object. Or is the S2000 so bad in the snow & freezing rain that I should just spend a few dollars more and buy a winter beater and leave my baby in the garage all winter?

Thanks much in advance for the advice!

M

Personally I'd go for a winter beater. However, with the proper tires this car goes very well in the snow.... as demonstrated by our brothers up north in Canada.

the Blizzak ws-50's do great in the snow, not so good on dry road as the upper model blizzaks but they are phenomenal in the snow

Really happy with our Michelin Maxi Ice - run it both my S and my wife's Accord although I don't know if you can get them in the US. Same with Nokian - they win test after test over here, but I don't know if you can get them. Of course a winter beater would be even better....

The Blizzak's are very good in adverse conditions. I would opt to buy a beater as I would not want to drive the S every single day in the cleveland snow.

Why? Is it any different than driving one every day in Calgary snow?

Hehe! In the 4 winters that I've daily driven my S2000, I have only gotten stuck once and that was backing out of my parking stall after having parked all night. It had snowed over night and the guy who left before me plowed a huge snow ridge behind me and I thought I could run it. I guess 2.5 feet of snow was just a little too much. As soon as my guys pushed me past the deep stuff and into the 1 foot stuff, the S2000 just plowed right out of the parking lot no problem. People really do underestimate what a really good set of snow tires can, even on a car with such low ground clearance.
