Default Bridgestone S02's

I'm at about 11,200 miles and my rear S02's are just about down to the wear indicator. I know that they're not a high mileage tire because of the excellent dry traction, but that seems to be really low mileage, almost as bad as R compound tires. How is everyone else doing with the S02's? Do I just drive really fast? How much will they cost to replace?

Thanks,
Ryan

1. People range from 10-25k miles on these tires with the average being 15ish.
2. It's not the speed you're driving at that is wearing them down, it's the aggressiveness of stopping/starting/cornering.
3. They cost a lot. ~$170 per tire.

--Check out the Wheel and Tire forums.
--I get about 12k per rear tire set, so I'm not ragging on your driving style.
--Some people go for cheaper replacements, but this is my fun car so I want max performance and just eat the cost.

I was about the same. A little more in the rear, but not much. When S02's wear down, wet weather traction is horrible, so replacing them would be wise considering the safety hazzard if you drive in the rain.

Don't forget about road conditions as a factor in tire wear. Crappy Boston/ NYC roads tear away a tires faster than a smooth pristine roads do. Also, keep the NASCAR donuts to a minimum.

Yeah when I said fast I really just meant aggressive, but thanks for the info. I guess this is about the norm.

I have the original S-02's with plenty of thread left and 16,000 miles on the odo. However, most of those miles are from a weekly commute of 150 miles each way of a largely straight road, at relatively high speeds (90-110mph).
I got similarly good mileage (over 25Kmiles) from some michelin pilots from my former ride, a '98 supra twin turbo. I guess that straight roads don't stress the tire's compund as much...

treadwear is an amazing 160 or something. My rears go 10K if i'm gentle and the fronts go about double.... call up tirerack for replacements.

20K before my front tires start seeing metal toward the inside. My rear are almost gone as well, they're at 21K so far.

I have about 9500 miles on my AP1 with one track day. Fronts have about 60% and my rears are at the wear marks. My rear gets a little squirly in the rain at freeway speeds. I guess it's time to replace the rears.
