C&D performance tire review
I just got the latest C&D and they did an extensive article on performance tire. Testing them under a variety of conditions and rating them.
In the end, the OEM tires for the AP2 (Bridgestone RE-050) did pretty poorly compared to the competition. I think it got 9 (or 8th) out of 11 tires. Although, two factors were wear rating (140 for this tire) and cost. They were the second most expensive.
The top rated tire was the Goodyear F1 something or other. Im too lazy to go grab the article.
Anyways, I was wondering if any who seen the article has tried one of the other tires listed and could comment on the results vs. their experience.
Reason I'm asking, the rear on my car are just about done. But the fronts have a long way to go. I'm just wondering if it's worth it to throw away the fronts in favor of another set of tires. That did better than the Bridgestones in this review.
thanks

I had those Goodyears on my Miata, and they were lame. Whicsper quiet, super smooth ride, pretty good grip, but not very steady. They were slow to respond and wallowed in response to any changes. It made for some pretty spooky-feeling handling. I preferred the Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position by a huge margin.
I've also had the old style Falken Azenis, which had excellent performance but were noisy and jarring over ripples and couldn't deal with standing water. Right now my S2000 is riding on a set of Advan AD-07, and so far, so good. I can't make direct comparisons to other tires though -- the S2000 and the Miata are different critters.

The specific tire they tested was not the OE Honda S2000 tire. If you are only replacing the rear I would suggest staying with matched tires. Then the next time you change you can look at other options.
If I can help let me know.

That test was a joke. The Goodyears have little feel or personality--but a do have a penchant for bubbling sidewalls. I can't believe I was talked into these by the Tire Rack reps. Gimmee my Yokes back!
