Difference between 245/40/17 and 245/45/17
I've been searching like crazy but maybe I'm blind and can't seem to find anything on these. can someone explain please?

the 45 has a higher sidwall.
the 45 means the sidewall is 45% of the thickness of 245mm, or roughly 110~ish give or take a few mm.
the 40 means its 40% of 245, or 95~ish mm. You can do the math, this is 10 sec multiplication in head ftl!

im trying to udnerstand but i cant 
is 245/40/17 better than 245/45/17 for my rear AP2 V1? tirerack still has that sale on the 245/45/17 but i see that OEM is 245/40/17. what should i do? thanks ikeyballz

higher profile will induce a bit of tire lean.. meaning the tire will actually lean while cornering... advantage of a bigger profile is it willbe a softer ride and will be be less stressed for your wheels.. but 40 is perfectly fine.. its when you get down to 20profile tires is when it causes alot of stress to your wheels (bending rims on potholes)

A 245/45/17 is 1" larger in diameter than the stock 245/40/17.....24.7" vs 25.7". For comparison, the 255/40/17 on the CR is only .3" larger at 25.0"
I would not put a larger tire on, because it increases your gearing, meaning a little slower to accelerate, plus the extra sidewall could mess with handling a little. Not worth the savings IMO....
