If anything, once they aren't bound by shipping straps and filled with air, they'll be more likely to be wider than narrower...

I have 28,000 miles on my Firestone Indy 500 and the rears are very close to the wear bars, if it was raining I would replace them now(have a new set in the garage). But since we don't get any rain for another month and a half I will keep them on till we see rain comming our way. I run 1.1* neg. camber and I have the toe set at the lower end of the recommended side. My rear tires wore even from side to side, air set at 30 psi.. So I'll get 30k to 32k miles out of the rear Firestones and that is good for me and where I drive. I just flipped my front tires and think I'll get 9k to 12k more miles out of them.

Rod - that mileage you are getting is light-years better than I have every gotten with any tire on my ap1s. My expectation is that I will generally get about 18K to 20K on the fronts, and 10K on the rears. I flip the tires if they allow for it every oil change etc. I have an oem spec alignment with the rear toe set to minimum. No matter what I do, those are my results. Do you think its the tires? Or, have you gotten similar mileage with other tires on your car?

 

I got more miles out of this set of tires because of the 8,300 mile cross country trip my wife and I took. I got around 17k to 20k miles out of the DW's that I ran before putting on the Firestone's. We enjoyed that trip so much we are planning another cross country trip but this time going east across Canada and comming back west in the northern states. Yes we like being retired. When I say "flipped my tires" I mean dismount the tire from the rim and turn the tire over and remount it. So what was on the outside is now on the inside of the rim.

My rear tires have worn even across the tread for the last 100k miles. After I bought the S back in '10 I put new tires on it and the rear tires wore on the inside edge so bad I started putting less and less camber every time I got it aligned. Then I put less toe on the rear and when I got the wear pattern I liked, thats where I stopped messing with the alignment.

Edit-Don't forget I run taller tires than stock 235/45-17 up front with 245/45-17 out back on stock rims.

 

Finally time to replace my Indy 500 tires this weekend (only the rears).

The rears, lasted 19k miles with stock alignment specs. (18k if you want to be more conservative and change tires earlier)

The fronts (last pic), not even close to the wear bars at all and looks almost new.

 

What size did you get? That's pretty good pricing.
