Firsts, seconds and blems
i think the whole first second and blem thing would only apply to standard economy class tires that are used across multiple platforms and manufacturers. Star Specs, Rs-3s etc would be exempt from that line of thinking because they are a niche marketed tire that is not standard on anything and known for performance. Just my $.02
I'm beginning to conclude tires are probably like a lot of other products where the top brands are not going to release bad product to the consumer, at least not with their brand. There a lot of complex factors to understand with tires. Fortunately there are some standard measures for speed rating and treadwear. The materials and tread patterns are best evaluated by your own experience and driving situation.
I ended up with Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2 on the rear. Same tire as the front. Car has 80,000 miles so maybe I can get 40,000 out of them if I play nice.
