Thumbs up Front vs. Rear Wheel Widths

Looking for some help!

I have the following wheel options for my AP1 S2K track toy:

- 17x8 Et 48 Front and Rear

- 17x8 Et 40 Front and Rear

- 17x7 Et45 Front / 17x8 Et48 or Et40 Rear

- 17x8 Et 48 Front / 17x8 Et 40 Rear

Which would you guys recommend and why?

Thanks!!

-AJ

None of the above.

Typically guys who are looking for track rims come to this forum looking for something that's as wide and as light as hell, but don't require any modifications other than maybe rolling the fenders to get equally wide tires to fit.

Based on your interest in underwidth'd rims with less than ideal offsets?, I imagine that you like the style/looks of one kind of rim that only come in the sizes/offsets above and now want advice on which ones are the lesser of evils?

If you want a good set of track rims: 17x9 +63 Volk CE28s. If you've got to have 17x7s and 17x8s, pick up a cheap set of AP2 wheels.

Thanks for the reply!

The 17's I mentioned above are brand new OZ Superleggera's on clearance at a buddy's store. Those are the sizes he has available, and I wondered if I could make them work.

Are you recommending 17x9" for all four corners?

Is the non-staggered setup optimal on S2000's for track driving?

I am coming from old BMW E30's w/ non-staggered setups.

Thanks,
-AJ

I also have a BMW ...an E46... 2 cars are very different... your S will probably have snap oversteer...

i think you definitly need a staggered setup...

run the biggest tire you can fit on the front. 255 will fit with minor rubage. Check out maxrev.net for his FAQ non-stag setup.

Start with 255 in the rear then increase width to your preference

I run 245 non staggered. car is ok. looking to try 255 in the future.

How to fit 275s

Since the above post I went with 17x9s all around. Just because your rims are all the same size doesn't mean that the tires have to be....I run 255 Fronts w/275 Rears.

what are the advantages and disadvantages of running non staggered rims while staggering the tires?

will a 18X9 wheel with 55 offset work all the way around with 225/40 in front and 255/35 in back, or will it stick out too far and rub?

Would this be more beneficial as opposed to just running an 8" wide wheel up front?

Whether Your running an 8" or a 9" wheel dun't matter, cause a 225 tire will have the same tread width and a simular sidwall width mounted on either wheel. If the 8" wheel was simular to the tread width of a 225 tire, I would opt to go with the 8" wheel up front and the 9" in the rear.

actually the thread width of the 225 tire is 9.1 inches, thats why i was asking... they are almost identical in width..

so there is absolutely no benefit to non staggered wheels if i stagger the tires?

anybody know if a 18x9 with 55 offset will clear the front or will it rub?
