I got the HTR ZIII to test out. So far they are pretty nice. They are not as sharp for turn in as the RE050's, but they are very smooth and easy to handle. Under extreme breaking they tend to slightly wobble.

I have yet to take them to the limit, just put them on.

BOTH have soft sidewalls compared to oem bridgestone (or bridgestone in general).

i would say hankook's sidewalls are softer.

on the track, the kumho's hold up better than the hankook's...

i absolutely HATED the hankook's at the track.
I didn't find the Hankooks to be too soft at Lime Rock vs. the Kumho Ecsta DOT race tires I was running at the same event. Softer, yes, less grip, yes, but nothing beyond what I expected considering street tire vs. race tire. They performed better than I expected, similar to the Bridgestone S03's I used to run as backup/rain tires.

And I'm used to MUCH stiffer tires (Hoosiers) on a MUCH lighter-weight and more stiffly sprung car (2300 lb. street/track 240Z).

My 240Z on Hoosiers is a much more responsive and "throw-around"able car at the track, a more rewarding car to drive. The difference between the stock-suspended S2k's handling demeanor on Kumho DOT race tires, and on Hankook RS2's, is VERY small compared to the difference between the S2000 and my Z.

jyeung528 and elistan, are you on stock suspension?

Just trying to wrap my head around why you guys hated the RS2's so much. I might be able to understand slower transitions in autoX slaloms, but at the track I'm just not seeing that big a downside.

Or maybe the Kumho VR and Ecsta DOT race tires I've run on the s2000 (I've always run Hoosiers on the Z) are shite, and the RS2's didn't seem so bad in comparison for me.

Just wonderin'...

The S is the wrong car if you're looking for cheap tires.

Yes, stock suspension. Keep in mind that I've only tried the Hankooks at autocross, not a track day, and these were 16" RS2s compared to 16" S02s and 17" MXs.

I really like the MX's I had them on my WRX, and on my 16" S2k rims. When the RE050's wear out on my 17's I will buy them again. Unless I start seeing these HTR III's on the autocross.

So much hype about the new HTRIII's but no real reviews from any members, makes me a bit weary to purchase.

I am definitely leaning towards the MX's, hopefully I will be happy!

That's why I bought the HTR ZIII's, to give a review. I just haven't had the time to really abuse the tires. So far I like them. They are very easy to control, they are not as sharp as the RE0's, but that translates to less twitchyness, which I like.

I run the MX on OEM AP2 wheels. The sidewalls are softer than RE050's but not soft by any means. No issues in the rain (but I take it easy when wet). For the price, they are a good tire. I have no experience with the RS2.
