Default help with getting staggered 17" tire sizes

I have 17" rims with a +40 offset. they are 17 x 7.5 rims.

The guy at the tire place is trying to tell me that i should just get 225/45 all 4 tires around. However, I would rather try to maintain the staggered front/rear setup so my handling stays balanced with my stock suspension.

I have also seen arguments as to the true size of our stock tires. I want to maintain as close to the same diameter as stock for the Rear tires. I've read that our rear tires are as small as 24.8" and as large as 25.0". so what's the real answer? I've even plugged in our stock tire size for the rears on the mazda tire size calculator and it says they are 24.9". lol. i can't win. this debate also seems to go on with the front tires as well.

so I'm hoping someone with 17" rims can tell me what sizes of tires they got. Again, I want to keep as close as possible to the rear stock tire diameter (whatever magical number that happens to be, lol). and then have something that's close to the staggered setup that we have stock.

The offset and the size on your wheels are going to be very hard to stagger tires. A 40mm offset wheel may stick out of the wheel well. The only way to stagger the tire would be with a 205/50R17 and 225/45R17 rear.
If I can help let me know.

Well these are actually johnny s2k's rims and they stuck out just a slight bit, so that should be ok.

he was running 225/45 R 17 in front and 245/40 R 17 in back.

he said this setup worked well, but he thought the fronts were a bit wider than he liked for handling.

I do like the idea of 245/40 R 17 in the back as I understand a 245 tire is closest to the size of the contact patch of the original OEM S-02's.

so I was wondering if a 215/45 R 17 in front might work with that setup?

your thoughts on this Jim?

Also, I've never bought tires from tire rack before, so I have no idea how shipping and everything works, but FWIW some guy at tires plus is telling me he can get them cheaper than i can get them online shipped to my door.

Jim, These were my old rims. I never had a problem with the sizes, and when I had called you originally to get two new rears, you reccommended the 245/40 for the rear.

I noticed the fronts were a little too wide thought, but didnt have the wheels on the car long enough to worry about changing them!
