Default How cold can summer tires get before damage?

Possibly moving to the northwest, where temperatures get to lower 30's sometimes (current forecast is 45). I used to live over there and knew of many that would drive year-round on summer tires, myself included. However, back then I wasn't as performance-oriented. I'm wondering, how cold can it get before damage is done to the tires? I'm okay with playing it safe in cold weather, but I don't want to ruin the tires by running them year-round if they can't be used that way. I'm looking at Direzza's, RE01R's, etc., my car desperately needs tires.

They just get hard as a rock and offer sub-optimal traction when you may need it most.

I don't think they will get damaged. I had to drive my car into storage last night. The temp was about 20F and I made it OK. However I would not drive through the winter on these tires.

I have Direzza summers on my car right now and last night we got our first semi-decent snow, aka like half an inch. I'm in no hurry to go run any errands, hehe. As soon as my new wheels arrive, I'm putting blizzaks on my car.
