Default how does the size of the rim and sidewall affect rubbing?

I understand how the width of the tire effects fender rubbing, but how does the amount of sidewall xxx/35/xxx vs. xxx/40/xxx effect rubbing? I'm guessing when you go with a bigger rim, you gotta get less sidewall- so xxx/40/18 = xxx/35/19 for the same fit??

The offset of the wheel and the width of the wheel has a lot to do with it. If the wheel has a low offset and they are too wide they will stick outside the wheel well on the car. The aspect of the ratio will also contribute to rubbing. If the tire is too tall they will hit.
I hope this helps.

So the actual size of the wheel - ie. 19'' and 18'' doesn't actually directly contribute to the rubbing as long as the aspect of the ratio compensates for it ??

I pretty much have the whole offset and width of wheel concept down pat- its the wheel diameter vs. aspect ratio that I'm curious about.

THANKS JIM!
