i dont believe 245 will fit on a 17x7 rim correctly, if even, i would stick with 215/205 fronts 225/235 rears

I had ADR 16" X 7" rims for my winter tires. OEM sizing (205 front, 225 rear). I don't think a 7" rim will comfortably accommodate a 245, let alone a 255 tire. A 9" rim would be better suited to a 255 tire. It's bad enough having non-staggered rims with staggered snow tires of OEM sizing. Having non-staggered rims and going with bigger staggered summer tires is an even worse idea. The rear rims and tires will make for a very spongy and unstable handling.

i used 205/50 fronts and 225/45 rears cus thats what jim recommended and it worked good...225 is the widest you'll get to fit the 7" rim

Well, an 8" rim will be better for a 255 tire than a 7" inch was, but it'll still be pinched a bit. You should try to stick with 225 front and 255 rear. My best recommendation would be to get staggered rims for the best fit. 7.5", 55 offset front and 9", 65 offset rear. Anything else is a compromise.
I'll let "spa-zz" elaborate more if he wishes.
