Default Just ordered a set of RE-01Rs

After two sets of S02s, I decided it was time for a change. The current Bridgestone rebate had me looking hard at RE050As, but it seemed the retailers jacked up some of the prices on these just as the rebate was announced. I looked at the Hancooks that Doug (Triple H) uses, but the deals on those are not as good as they once were. Shiped to my installer, the RE0-1Rs cost only $31 more than the RE050s AFTER the value of the rebate card is deducted from the cost of the 50s, so why not go for the most aggressive compound.

For the record, I am getting 205 55 16 fronts and 225 50 16 rears. According to the spec sheets, the RE-01R rears are only 2/10ths of an inch narrower than the stock 225 S02s, so I don't think I am losing too much on that count. It is 8.5 inches versus 8.3 inches.

I have heard great things about these tires from a local owner in New England, so I'm eager to test them out. I'll be putting about 1500 miles on them next weekend when I drive out to PA for the Spring Fling event. I'm hoping this will be a good tire for autocrossing. I have a set of Hoosiers that are pretty old. If I was going to go back to SCCA events, I would need a new set. But the BMW series does not allow the racer DOT tires in the stock class, so that may be my focus this year. I will also be doing one track day with them in August.

If people are interested, I'll update this thread. Maybe it has all been covered by others. Let me know.

agreed you will love them 100%. I run these on my Inifini G37S granted they are the 19" sizes which are far wider but the same tire non the less. they wear pretty bad but thats the price you pay for a great tire. I have three sets of these. one that were on my oem wheels. one set on my Volks and another on my track rim. The ones on the oem wheels i ran down in 5500miles volks i have 1k on them but showing some wear. the track ones are almost shot with about 3300 miles on them. still love them. thinking about trying out the toyo R888 for my next track tire....

Thanks. How long have you had them? Any pointers you want to share?

I have a set of RE-01Rs on my Subaru and I love them! The tread wear has actually been way better than I expected but tires tend to wear pretty evenly on my Subie w/ proper rotation. I only wish I could afford them for my S2k.

Agree with everything said above. Surprisingly quiet tires. Haven't had a chance to autox or track yet, but I have about 8k miles on my tires and they still have plenty of tread left.

The first 750miles or so, the tires are pretty greasy, almost to the point where you think your on bald tires. But after that, WOW,
Yeah, i noticed that too and wondered what the hell was going on. After a couple of
hundred miles no problem.
