Obviously I'm not Jim, but I do have experience with some of these tires. I've personally tracked 3 sets of Direzza Z1s on my S2000 and have raced other vehicles with the RE01Rs and RE070s. Also, a local group of auto-xers performed head-to-head testing of the Direzza Z1 and XS.

From my experiences, the Direzza Z1s and RE01Rs prefer precise driving inputs. The Direzza seems to break away smoother but they both hold on quite well. The RE01R wears a bit better, but I think this is due to the tread block design of the Direzza Z1s. The edges feather quickly when you start with full tread depth. Both of these tires have been proven as top-level performers in the Street Touring auto-x classes. The RE070s were decent but I would put them a notch below the RE01Rs and Direzza Z1s. Maximum grip was not as high, but the break away was controllable.

The head-to-head testing was performed with an '04 EVO RS that is tuned/modified for STU auto-x competition. On the track, the XS and Direzza Z1s pulled almost identical maximum and sustained lateral acceleration values. Though, if I remember correctly, the Direzza Z1 came out slightly ahead of the XS. It was noted that the XS's grip did not decrease as quickly as the Direzza's when it came to increasing the slip angle. The EVO owner felt he could be quicker with the Direzzas and the other test drivers liked both tires.

So, I think the XS could definitely be a contender as the local auto-x level. Nationally, it's hard to say if anyone will even campaign these tires. Everyone I know is using shaved Direzzas or shaved RE-11s for serious competition and full-tread depth tires at regional events.

Hope that helps....

Are you sure you selected the right size? Those numbers just don't look right. I'm no tire expert but your front should be a 45 not 40 and the rear should be a 40 not 35. With these short sidewalls, they may be a 6 ply to carry the pressure and weight, thus the load range. I think you should call the Tire Rack and verify the size, those guys are great. Good luck.
