Default MY00 Moving up to 17" wheels

Hello All,

I have a MY00 (read I have plenty of oversteer built in) and I am moving up to 17" wheels. My questions is about stagger. The OEM tires on Tirerack show a very narrow tread width on the front tires. Is this a typo on Tirerack because it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the specs of the tire. If not then should I get a 255 rear tire to keep the stagger ratio basically the same as the OEM tires? I wouldn't mind a little more understeer. And if that is the case will I have any fitment issues with 255 on OEM 08' rims.

Thanks.
Kevin

I am running CR specs. 215 and 255 front and rear, on 7.5 and 8.5 inch wheels. These sizes work great. They should fit just fine on stock 08 wheels also.

The factory tires are narrow on the front and wider on the rear than most tires. I would not go with a 255 width tire on a 8" wide wheel though. The tire mfg's recommend at least a 8.5 wheel for the 255.
If I can help let me know.

If he's got OEM '08 wheels, the rears are 8.5".
255/40-17 *just* fits (8.5" = minimum wheel width).
Good enough for Honda, the CR came with 255/40-17s on those wheels.

If you're worried about stagger, get the CR sizes:
215/45-17 front, 255/[edit]40-17 rear.

I do have MY08 rims to mount the tires on.

The specs for OEM CR on the rear show 255/40-17 not 45 is that correct?

And once again my question is would a 215/45-17 front and 255/40-17 rear make the stagger ratio about right?

Thanks guys.

Whoops, yeah that should be 255/40-17, you don't want 255/45!

The importance of "stagger ratio" isn't as great as you might think, particularly on the street. You're going to be just fine on either AP2 sizes or CR sizes.

If you want to calculate which is closer to OEM, all the info you need is on the Tire Rack site. But honestly I think all the wringing of hands over AP1 tire stagger is much ado about very little...

Selecting the best tire make/model for your wants/needs/usage is going to be far more important than whether you run 245/40-17 rears or 255/40-17.

Hey Kevin everyone will probably disagree with me but if it was my car I'd run 225 255 stagger. Just my opinion please post pics when your done. Excited to see a Berlin ap1 with cr wheels. Good luck making a decision

Certainly 225/45-17 front with 255/40-17 rear is an option. Personally I'd run those sizes in track tires, but I'd probably go with 215/45 fronts for the street. Not that big a deal one way or the other, IMO, but if the OP is worried about oversteer, no reason not to go with 215s.

Hey Guys,

I think I am going with the Star Specs 215/45-17 front and 255/40-17 rears. Any fitment issues with that size rear? Will I have to roll the fenders or do that fender lip mod? I am stock AP1 MY00 suspension.
