Gotcha. Well, if it were me....I'd get something that tends to last and will tend to expose any shortcomings you may have.

Autobahn isn't really too hard on tires, though, so its not like you'll need to buy tires made of iron.

I haven't tried the V730, but I know they tend to be grippy and tend to last.

I love my RT660 just for the fact that they're fast and cheap.

On the other end of the spectrum, I also love the Falken RT615K+. They're off pace from the fastest tires by a good margin, but cot damn are they fun to drive on. And they're cheap. And they'll last until the end of time.

All the above are bad to completely unusable wet.

Since it rains 8 days a week in IL, chances are you'll come upon a wet trackday at some point. Autobahn becomes a skating rink when its wet.

I'm about 1hr north of Autobahn and I go there often enough.

I'd consider precipitation lol. We don't live in CA.

Yokohama AD09's or RE71R's are great in wet weather...and the price reflects that. Maybe put one of those on your research list?

Just do some light research and dive in without thinking about it too much. Any of the 200TW tires you choose is gonna be fun at a HPDE

Really appreciate your insights, especially in light of the track I'll be at. Much to think about, thanks again!

Toyo RA1 makes a great rain tire.

The bridgestone RE71R has been discontinued and replaced by the RE71RS, which judging from the tread pattern (or lack of) will likely mean it won't make a good rain tire.

The last auto X event I ran got rained out and I was running RE71RS. At highway speeds and on the auto X pad I thought the RE71RS was decent in the wet, granted it's not full track speeds but there was a decent amount of standing water on the pad for my impression. Decent feed back and response despite the wetness. Cut through standing water decently though can be slightly sketchy depending on surface type and inside vs outside tire. Very rarely got that greasy feeling some tires have in the wet. Seems like the three rib pattern tires tend to do a bit better in the wet than the tires with delta chevron tread patterns. The sketchiest 200 TW I've run in the wet probably were RS4s. I imagine wet performance with the RE71RS will also be tread depth dependent. Based on pictures of worn RE71RS the outside grooves almost might as well not be there.
