Default need a good set of tires

I need a good set of rear tires that will get good traction. Any info would be great also how wide can I go on stock rims?

I just got a set of Bridgestone RE-01Rs. I'm really liking them. Better than the RE050s that came with the car. More grip, good breakaway characteristics, and surprisingly compliant ride with low tire noise. Well priced too.

ummm? what kind of traction? Straight line? Rain? Snow? Lateral? Mud? Gravel? Grape jelly?

You gave very few details. Luckily, your little mini profile says you have a 2002 S2000.

Really the widest street tire you can get and still stay within the stock diameter is 245/45/16. The Hankook RS2Z212 is one of the only UHP tires available in that size. The BFG Gforce Sport is available in that size too, IIRC. The G force sport is impressive....but it's on the mild side of the performance spectrum.

Strait line would be good for now, I do some driving up in the mountains so I would want something that will get enough traction in the turns...

Either the BFG G force sport or the Hankook RS2 will work for you then. 245/45/16. The Hankooks may work a little better because they have a less substantial sidewall....but they will not last nearly as long as the BFGs. Either of them will have the potential to break your diff.

WTF? Break your diff? People run 245/265/275 Width. R-Compounds EVERY day on S2000's without "Breaking their Diff's" Please justify your statement.

I think the BFG's are pretty lousy tires compared to the OEM S02's, RE01R's are probably the best street tire available but don't last long and are not inexpensive. The Hankook RS2's are not bad but have a fairly soft sidewall, they are cheap though.

I'm assuming the OP is running the stock 16x7.5" rear AP1 wheels. The widest street tire you can safely run is 245/45/16.

BFG gforce sport is the best bang for your buck. My family has them for all our low profile tires.

The BFG G-force sport is a godawful tire on the S2000 in my experience the only tire I disliked more was the Fuzion ZRi. That is after 8 years of S2000 ownership and now 30+ sets of tires.

The Bridgestone RE050A Pole Positions in 16" 205/225 are on sale right now at tire rack, and there is a $100 rebate on a set starting April 13th. These are my favorite street tire on the S2000 (currently on my car)in the 17" 225/255 combination. (I haven't personally run the 16's)
