Default Need some tire help and understanding

(I did read the Wheel Fitment Guide.)

I'm looking at the ASA AR1 Black w/Match Lip with 17x7 in the front and 17x8 in the rear. According to the guide I should get 215/(?)R17 in the front and either 235/(?)R17 or 245/(?)R17 for the rear.

There is an Important Note on the tirerack for the rear wheels that states:

Code:
Wheels with a 45mm offset will be very aggressive on the rear. The bulge of the tire will stick out past the fender edge! Fender modification may be required!
So to the actual questions:

1. Do I really need to be concerned about the note considering the guide states it should work?

2. What should the aspect ratio (height) should be since I'm putting 17" that are obviously larger then 16"?
(I can manually figure out the original height of the tire and working backwards keeping the wheel+tire height the same on 17" by using a smaller ratio, but I feel like that could be dangerous, as I don't know what I'm doing.)

Just my 0.02, get a different wheel. ASA wheels are heavy. Don't ruin a good car by putting cheap parts on it.

Assume I got something lighter like ENKEI PF01 Racing Series (17x7 & 17x8), I'd still not know anything more than my original post.

Ok, now you're talking! Yes, +45 is fairly aggressive for our car. But you're in luck! Enkei just released a 17 x 9 +60 which should fit a 255 size tire without any rubbing. They also have 17 x 8 +50 or 17 x 7.5 +45 (only in silver). You could probably run a 225 on the front and be fine, or just stretch a 215 (slightly) if you don't want to worry.

You can use the thing at this link to calculate aspect ratio stuff: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=471925

But I'd just use AP2 CR sizes... 215/45/17 and 255/40/17.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off like an ass earlier, I just hate when people buy certain parts that are worse than stock is all.

And just as an FYI...RAYS who makes Volk etc has always had "S2000 specific sizing" that is 17 x 7.5 +50 and 17 x 9 +63, which is very similar to the 17 x 7.5 +45 and 17 x 9 +60. If you want to stay staggered that would probably be a good setup.

Yeah I hadn't picked out a wheel yet, I just choose it as a reference for the question and it was the first wheel to choose from

Heh, now that I look, that appears to be the only option I actually like.

My selected setup might look like:

So if I get (Enkei PF01)
Front: 17x7(+48) [0x0 -7mm compared to AP2 stock]
Rear: 17x9(+60) [0x.5 -5mm compared to AP2 stock]

Then for wheels (Hankook Ventus V12)
Front: 215/35/17
op1 Rear: 245/40/17
op2 Rear: 255/40/17

I'm seriously not a wheel guy, so these numbers look good?
(It really doesn't matter if I go op1 or op2 in the rear, 10mm difference, it's like less than half and inch, a quarter inch on both sides and the tire height gains .3 inches. I should probably pickup a Yellow Box off Ricks2k.com to make sure my speedo is right?)

No no no, front tire size is way wrong. Do you know how to read tire sizes? 215/35/17 means the tire is 215mm wide (like if looking at from rear of the car), and the 35 represents a percent of this number for the sidewall height. (You know what a tire's sidewall is right?) So 35% of 215 is only 75.25 mm. It would ride badly, look too small, and your speedo would read about 5 mph too slow. You want the 215/45/17 or 225/45/17.

Personally, I would go with the 17x8 +50 up front. 225/45 and 255/40, BUT that might have slight rubbing on really big bumps or if you lower the car...so if you want to be safe, just use the 215/45/17.

IMO no reason not to go 17x9 +60 all around, and go with 235/40-17 fronts and 255/40-17 rears if you want to run staggered tires.

That tis true...I did run a 17 x 9 with 235/45 up front for a while...I recently went back to stock and don't know if it's the new tires, staggered feel, or the loss of the wider stance (they were 17 x 9 +45) but the car feels very "floaty" at highway speeds (not as buttoned down as I would like). I got coilovers though, so I'll see if those help.
