New Tires Soon
Hey all. I've had the Stewie for a month now and I think I'll be needing new tires soon because it still has the stock Potenza S-02 and Continental ContiSports with almost 18k miles. I read in the sticky that the rear stock 225/55/16 is really wider than it's rated so I should put on 245/45/16 for non-stock tires. The problem is that the DiscountTires around my area don't seem to carry 245/45/16's according to their online database. I'll be visiting them tomorrow but I wanted to get some suggestions from you guys on what tires you've gone through.
The Bridgestones RE 01R seems to have gotten good traction reviews but horrible on road noise (lots of humming).
The Toyo Proxes T1R has also gotten decent reviews.
I'm looking to get 4 matching tires unless there's a decent 2 & 2 match up. It can be hard to find matching sets with the 245/45/16's.

Yet another victim of the stickie...
What do you want/need from tires? Dry grip? Wet/dry grip? Possibility of snow usage? Grip more important than life, or is life a big concern? Price a big issue? The answers to these questions should drive your tire choice.
You don't *need* 245/45-16 for the rear, and in fact if you insist on that size you will most likely not be getting the best tires. Getting the best tire for your usage is more important than 225/50-16 vs. 245/45-16.
Die, stickie, die...

The Kumho ASX is an all-season tire, it sacrifices dry and wet grip for winter grip. For your usage, there's no reason to use all-seasons, summer tires will give you better performance. The Kumho SPT is a step down in performance from the OEM tires, sacrificing wet/dry performance for longer life. If you *want* longer life and are willing to sacrifice wet and dry grip, they might be worth considering.
The OEM tires are "Max Performance" tires. Ideally you should stay within this category, or "Extreme Performance" (being mindful that tires in this category may give up some wet performance).

The Tire Rack site also has consumer reviews of tires that can help give an idea of which are favored in each performance category, and also have actual test data comparing tires.
Their website is a GREAT resource, use it!

Alright guys, thanks for the recommendations. I guess my biggest question now is how much of a difference is it sticking with 225/50/16's versus going to 245/50/16's for non-oem tires?
Has anyone had experience on both?
