non-hub centric wheels
Jim and/or anyone who has a response.
I have a set of wheels, Sport Max 006 I'm told, that came on a used S I purchased. They do not even come close to being hub-centric and so are only held in alignment by their tapered lugs.
Is this a bad thing, and if so how bad?
Would that answer change if I intended to track with these wheels (likely they'd be my street tires/rains)?
Thanks,
-Steve

lots of wheels are lug-centric, especially aftermarket wheels for the S. instead of being held in position by a ring on the hub, the wheel is centered using lugs/cone shaped lug nuts. this allows them to fit a wider range of vehicles than if they were tailor-made with specific bore sizes. if you torque them down properly, it shouldn't matter one way or the other. just make sure you torque them with the car up on jack stands rather than on the ground as with regular acorn-style lug nuts. some people like to use centering rings that are made for aftermarket wheels, while others will say that they are a PITA and not worth using.
there are plenty of people on here who track their cars with aftermarket wheels, i'm sure they can offer even more insight

Thanks for all the responses guys.
TrackStar, these are wheels that came with the car. I'll likely sell them, but in the meantime, I was thinking of using them as my rains for the track, and/or bridge the gap if I put some camber adjusters or brakes in the rear that won't fit under the OEM 16" wheels.
So I was just checking, and got good responses from all of you, and from Jim at the Tire Rack.
