Default non staggered setup

i've been running staggered for awhile now..and i'm not getting enough grip on the front tires under braking. i have 2 sets of rota slipstreams. one set was going to be for street and the other for r compounds. now i'm thinking i should just put 245s on the rear set of rims that i'm not using and just keep running with street tires with a non-staggered setup.

i've been running the normal 205F 245R setup on an ap1. will it help improve my times to upgrade to 245 up front? i'm hoping the tires wont lose grip so easily and abs wont kick in so i can use trail braking more. the rim size is 16x8 with offset 48MM. will i have problems with this rubbing? i am running tein src with about 1-2 fingergap up front. i already have had the car corner balanced so i hope i dont have to change the height.

is 245s all around going to be wide enough or would it be better to just stay with my staggered setup. i kind of want to try the non-staggered setup with street tires before moving to r compounds. thanks for the helpp!

Might try a 225 upfront first. What front bar do you run?

There is no way you can run a 245 on a +48 offset, 8"wide wheel up front even at stock height, lowered at all I think a 225 will rub as well. You'll have to find some higher offset wheels to run 245's up front I'm afraid. You will probably get some good input in the Racing and Competition forum on possible choices as well.

you ARE going to rub if you run a 245 on an 8 +48. that tire is alittle too agressive for that set up even if you mod your front fenders. Try running a 225 up front for more grip up front, but depending on how low you are, you may even rub with that set up

the speedo would not be thrown off but running different sizes up front but 245/45/16 would be the right size to run up front if you went non-staggered. Actually the oem rear wheels will not fit up front without bring modified. The centerbore of the wheel is not large enough. It is only 63-64mm while the hub up front is 70mm. You will need to find a shop to mill out the centers to fit the front. I am currently looking for a shop to do it.

I can't imagine you running anything wider up front with your current wheels. They were already pretty flush when I saw them.

As for the non-staggered setup. Doooo it

I run rear AP1 wheels on the front and CE28N's on the rear. Yes, i had to have the wheel opened to fit over the hub in front. I run RA-1's- 245/45/16 in the front and 255/40/17 in the rear.

I lowered the car in the rear a bit more and changed the angle of attack on my wing. I was actually understeering. Too much angle, too stiff on my Gendron bar, incorrect pressures, or all of the above led to the understeer. I was expecting to hang the rearend out a bit more. Previously I had been running 225/245 on AP1 stockers. Braking did seem to increase.

Turning lock-to-lock with the oem rears up front and having the Gendron bar leads to inner rub. Doing this at any speed would be bad. Also, the front tires have nothing to do with the speedo.

Here's a pic showing the difference between a stock S-02(205) and a RA-1(245) for the front:
