Default OE 16's bridgestones

when I picked up my01, it wasn't a spring chicken 78k.. had fuzions on it and due to lack of knowledge, I had those replaced with fuzions.. anyway, my current tires are yokohamas.. and I am wanting to change things up.. I seriously doubt tracking this car.. however.. I tend to go for drives and put down miles...

I am looking at a few options...

go find out what OE's were like and wear them out...

try out the RE11A's, I am enjoying reading about in the forum...

I am wanting to stay 16...

plan B... change up to 17's or 18's...

Did you have / drive, the original 16 Bridgestone S-02's

sorry, I should have set the poll up better.. separating tires an wheels.. so it's setup to allow multi-selections..

poll fixed

My AP1 had Fuzions when I bought it. My next set of tires were Dunlop Star Specs in the OE 16" sizes. They were sooo much better than the Fuzions. The single best improvement to my car was switching to 17" wheels... albeit they were 17x9s and I was using 255/40/17s front and rear with a stiffer FSB. However, even driving AP2s with good 225/255 tires feels much more responsive than my AP1 was with 16" tires/wheels.

There is still a good selection of tires in OEM AP1 sizes: RE11A, ZII, RS-3, AD08, R1R, etc. . I've stuck with 16s, zero regrets. For me, no compelling reason to go to 17s, particularly if you're not tracking it. Lot of handling feel benefits to smaller/lighter wheels/tires in the real world, and of course less $$$. Tire make/model selection is way more important anyway, and again you can still get some of the best street tires in AP1 sizes.

I drove on SO2's from 02 till this year. They are a very pricey tire. This year I upgraded to 17" wheels and got Hankook rs3's. So far they ride quite a bit better than the old set-up. A big reason for moving to 17's was there is a lot more tire/sizes to choose from.

that's quite a testament for S-02's

I know I would not get the miles out of either of these tires as I may other available selections.. but my current situation has my travel limited, and I feel I want to know how sticky... is sticky... the fuzions weren't.. I think the yokohama's feel sticky.. but the ratings on the S-02.. say they're what sticky is all about for our car...

the RE11A's interest me due to rain and florida.. pretty much says it all right there.. so I could get sticky, and... have some tire on the road in the rain...

appreciate the feedback...

good tire but not worth the money. liked the direzza starspec way better. most noticeable difference was sidewall stiffness and wet grip plus alot cheaper.

I have run the S-02 since I bought the car new in '03, I have always wanted to try something else but the fronts and backs never wear out at the same time. I love them, are they worth the money? I would say they are on/for the street, I like the grip and they are great in the rain when newer, auto-x'ed a few times on some beat fronts they performed well in BS once aired up (I run R comps now on the track). I have 42K on the car now, just mounted new fronts, so expect 20K on the fronts and I am on my 3rd set of rears which have gone past their usual 10K but must have been a good alignment last time as they are wearing even and I feel as though I can still get 2-3k more miles. Overall I would say I like them because they are very predictable in their performance.

i bought my car with kumho ASXs, just recently replaced the two rears with yokohama S drives. wish i would have done it sooner. S drives are a far more performance oriented tire, but the stock size 16" tire options are few and far between. i think after these wear out i'm stepping up to 17"s or back to 18"s

the one positive to 16" is price

I got about 10,000 miles out of the rears, double that for the fronts, much better in the wet when new.
