offset question

i know it's dumb, but what is 'offset'? I've seen it everywhere but duno exacty what it means. anyone?

Glad to be of help. I also think this other fav link of mine would be AWESOME if it was in the NOTES section. It really could answer a lot of repeat questions in here and provide a ton of useful info. Anyone looking for final outboard/inboard #'s, etc just have to plug in what they're considering for replacement wheels/tires:
