When I first got my car I had my ap1s powdercoated gunmetal and I loved them. I rocked them for about a year before replacing them (with a set of 17" gunmetal ssr type c). Gunmetal goes very well with berlina.
If you don't like that then go bronze, the black on black is played out and black masks the details of the rims (which the lines of the ap1 rims are awesome) I have said since I bought my car, if the ap1s came in ap2 sizes I would never have bought different wheels. There was a guy in florida a couple years back that did something similar to a candy coat on his ap1s. He sprayed a bronze over a black base and they turned out very nice. And the benefit of ap1s is they are abundant, if you get tired of the look you can usually pick up another set without tires for around 100-150. I voted bronze because gunmetal was not an option.
And thanks kenive for the gunmetal plastidip picture. My gf has been debating plasti dipping her wheels but I could never find a decent picture of the gunmetal. How many coats did you use?
Hmm that gunmetal plasti-dip looks nice. S2cho what brand of paint did you use? Only reason im thinking of leaving them stock is because I dont wanna end up with a riced out look. I always see cheap cars with painted rims and I dont like it.

it will be fine as long as you stick to basic colors (black, gray, bronze) stay away from any color that grabs attention.
its very durable. i use a wash mitt and just go over them, but a friend of mine did his bumper with less coats than mine and he goes to town on it with a power washer. he just doesnt get to close.
