Default question for jim

i just ordered some work wheels and have a couple of question.

1. im planning on installing the valve stem myself before i take it to the tire center, do i have to tighten it very tight?

2. i have 18x8 +56, 18x9.5 +62, what tires size and brand would you recomend for southern california streets?

Why do you want to do this? I think this is not a tough thing to do and the shop won't charge extra for it.

last time i took my car to discount tires, the ended up leaving big gashes around the valve stem and onto the lip. i was pissed and all they said was there tool slipped off and hit the rim and nothing could be done about this. so, i was just trying to do it myself before taking it there.
