Default Race wheels vs. Street wheels...

I was looking into some Kodiak and CCW race wheels recently. They seemed to provide the custom sizing that Kinesis and Fikse offers at considerably lower prices. However, after speaking with Kodiak, they stated their wheels are designed for race use and may not hold up to street use (e.g. potholes). I have read the same for CCW that their outter rim hoops are quite thin compared to a more street-oriented wheel (such as Volk, SSR, etc....SSR was specifically mentioned).
Is there really a design difference between wheels meant for race use vs. street use? If the street-oriented wheel is stronger against potholes and severe impacts, why not use that same design for a race wheel to make it more rugged/durable? Should I then not use race-oriented wheels such as Kodiak and CCW on the street?
Jim or any other knowledgable ppl, thanks ahead of time for your info.

p.s. Kodiak did suggest I look into Forgeline, which I guess designs their wheels more toward a combined track/street environment.

I'm guessing, but my guess is because the more rugged wheel weighs more. On a racetrack where you're pretty sure there aren't any potholes, you may be able to get away with shaving the weight a bit.

I can't tell you for sure but my guess is that Warren is correct. We do not carry the other wheels so I really can't say for sure without knowing the specs on strength and durability.
