Default rear tire wear

i have yoko avs es 100 255's on my rear volks.. my rear tires are getting pretty worn but only in the center of the tire. is it normal for the center line of the tire to wear out a lot faster than the outer edges of the tires on s2000s or are my tires over-inflated? i've driven them fairly hard but only for about 8k miles. they should last longer shouldn't they?

Most people have wear on the insides. When it wears in the middle I think they are overinflated. What do you inflate them to?

I don't know if this applies to aftermarket sizes, but many people that have the ES100s on the stock 16" wheels use 30 lbs of pressure in the rear to help avoid the center wear.

Pre 04's say 32 psi from Honda also. That's strange you get wear with just 32..

Optimum inflation pressures are dependent on a lot of variables. They include tire size and construction, outside temperature, alignment settings and driving style, among others. I have noticed that tires that are slightly oversized for the rim will baloon and cause center wear even if pressures are appropriate.

I run 36 PSI rear and 38 PSI front in my car with OEM tires and rims. I find that this gives me crisp road feel and excellent tire wear and the expense of a harsher ride. My last set of OEM tires lasted about 20k miles rear and the fronts are still going strong at 25k miles. And no, I don't drive conservatively.

I have an 03' with the same tire, but a little different size 245/40z R17 91W. I get the same center wear. This is my 2nd set on the rear and both have had the same center line wear.....I keep the pressure on mine between 30-32 psi.....?? I need a 3rd pair right about now, but im not sure im going to buy the same tire...

Same center wear here with two sets of the same tires. 30 psi helped some, but not enough. Hydroplane resistance/grip was still good when the center wore out and the edges had 3/32 tread. I've moved on to a different tire and I think the same is happening. Fellow experts tell me it is my driving, not over-inflation or alignment.
