Default Recommend me a tire/wheel set up

Hello s2ki,

New to this great forum in terms of posting, but have been lurking for a while.
I recently purchased an FI'd s2k ap1 and have been enjoying cleaning up and tuning the vehicle to my tastes.

I would like to get a set of 17" inch wheels for track driving and sunny day motoring. Wet or cold weather performance is not a issue for me here in las Vegas and the car is a dedicated tracker rather than DD.

Enjoyed the ride characteristics of the dirreza star spec. the bridgestone s-03s in the past were ok but I liked the transient response and the progressive at the limit qualities of the star spec better. I'm even open to a semi slick or R compound tire.
Any thought on a wheel/ tire combo on a $1500 budget?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Enkei PF01s 17x9+60 = $297 x 4 = 1188
949 Lugs = $70
Dunlop Star Specs (235/40 f 255/40 r) = (162*2) + (172*2) = 668
Mounting, balancing, alignment = $120ish?

Still way over budget...and that's the least expensive, quality wheel/tire setup I can think of.

You could just get a set of 205/55f 225/50r Yoko A048s and have more grip than you can imagine on stock rims.

You could do the Kosei K1-TS in 17X7 and 17X8 with Hankooko RS3 for 1,472.00 plus shipping. The wheels are right at 15lbs each and the tires are as sticky as they get in a street/track tire.
If I can help let me know.

^Or the 17x9 +45s which will probably go slightly over $1500 if you wanted nonstaggered, but you'd need fender work. Or get the TR Motorsports C3s in 17x9 +62 from Tire Rack which are $159 ea x 4 = $636 + Star Specs which are $172 x 4 = $688 = $1372 before shipping and lugs....right around $1500 for everything.

Id do this but with Hankook RS3 as the first choice of tire (better hot performance, more grip, and cheaper than the star spec) with the Star spec as second choice.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, this board is awesome!

Jim - I didn't realize how light the Kosei wheels were, how is the quality and durability? What type of construction is it (cast vs forged vs some other form of cast-extrusion)?

I think I'm going to go with the Hankook RS3s as they seem perfect for a sunny day track/cruise car. I just need some more info on the Kosei before pulling the trigger.

Cheers,

This would be your best choice. Fits your budget. You won't need to roll your fenders. Tire choice would be your biggest concern stag vs. non-stag.
