casting and forging are two different processes by which the wheels are made.
casting involves heating the metal until it melts and pouring it into a mold. the side of the mold is typically cold and causes a really fine grain structure to form and then as solidification continues to take place there is a shrinking so to speak due to thermal contraction.

gotta run, but i'm sure someone else will explain forging, or i will when i get home

Thanks, Racer. The practical difference between forged and cast - forged rims are both stronger and lighter than cast rims. I'll leave it someone better equipped than I to explain forging.

Forged wheels are more expensive - but worth it for something like an S2000.

casting v. forging:
http://www.calcom.ch/HomeWebCalcom/News&Ev...ives/eTip16.pdf

Casting uses molten metal and a form, forging uses high pressure dies to deform cold metal. (Extruding is basically a continuous forging process.)

And you didn't ask, but the most expensive technique is machining. Just take billet of material and mill away everything you don't want to keep. (This is sometimes called "hogging out" the part.)

hmmm... when they were sold as ASA FR1s they were marketed as forged 2-piece and weighing 16F 17R

I wonder if they started to cast the centers and keep forged rim halves...

Shuk, synonymous with "high speed," creates 2-piece wheels using forged seamless spun rim technology for the ultimate in performance and durability. This newly introduced, high-end process results in a wide variety of rim widths and applications and offers the quality and precision that the import tuner crowd looks for in their street gear.

This is the verbiage I copied from the Shuk site listing the WR1s. Either way- forged or casted- I think they are a great looking wheel.

Liq, what did you pay for them? Did you get a set of rubber too?

I got 'em almost when they first came out - they were pretty cheap - only about 250/rim

I'm running R compound Victoracers on them now. 225/255 17"
