Default Replace Stock Tire Size

Hi,

I've been reading that replacement tires for the front should be 225 and rear should be 245 because of the wide tread pattern of the SO2's. but how about the side wall? what should the new specs be on replacing with a different tire but still on the 16 inch stock rims. and will they fit the width of the stock rim ok? thanks in advance guys.

Wow. thanks Woodson. I thought it was gonna be a simple answer. I am now more confused than ever. What I took away from the hours upon hours of reading was that you use 205/55/16 in front and 245/45/16 in back for ANY type of tire other than stock. correct? Seems like everybody kept referring to mostly the SO3s. but how bout other tires? same sizes recommended still? More specifically, I was planning to buy the Continental ContiExtremeContact tires from Tirerack to use on the stock wheels for regular driving and buy some 18s for summer only. Anybody know what size in this tire to use?

thanks again everybody
