Default Replacement spare tire options

My spare tire is 14 years old...like many spare tires it appears to be unused but I don't trust an old spare. The size is 125/70D16 96M, but the only option I can find is at the Tire Rack for $144, which is kind of high for something that might never get used. Are there any other options?

You can always visit local junk yard, just look for a fresher one.

The tire industry says they need to be replaced at 10 years whether they are used or not. A junk yard with a newer car would be the best option.

Check your local forum, maybe someone removed theirs for weight savings.

The spare is not exposed to sun or extreme heat. If it holds air and does not have any cracking, I would keep it. They are not meant for long distances or high speeds, so it should work fine to get you to a repair place.

Anyone know of more common cars that have spares that fit the S2K? Junked S2000s are a rarity around me, and I would still be getting a 6-10 year old tire at best.

Probably things like camrys and civics. But you can always look for the same tire size, if the rim doesnt fit you can always mount on your existing rim.
