Rota Wheels and Tire Rack
I think it's a good question.
I believe all wheels sold in North America are at least good wheels because I'm fairly positive they all have to be certified for safety reasons.
A piece of metal cast or forged with a few holes and spokes doesn't conjure up great leaps in technology expected in the future and are probably no better now than they were 50 years ago.
Wheels may be lighter and metals stronger but beyond that, they're probably no rounder than the wheels on Roman chariots.
Buy a set of good looking wheels that fit, save money , be happy.

If Rota's were the only wheels that fit the S2000 we'd all be rock'n em. And liking it too.
Instead of calling them crap we'd all be talking about the newest style and color combo's. ya know? So rock what you got and have fun with it.

Rotas aren't that bad in my opinion......I have Circuit 8s on my daily driver Civic. Yes they are knock offs but Rotas are used alot in racing such as autocrossing, road racing because they are actually pretty light.

im just not a rota guy
I had rota's on my civic too, and I loved them. It really depends on budget for me. If I could have been able to afford Spoon's wheels back int he day, I would have bought them! but I loved the look and the price of the Rota's was right, so for me, it was a no brainer.
Is this common to Rota?
Five broken spokes and I predict that something happend to this wheel.
Extreme torque or wrong or loose lug nuts?
Is this a lone example or is this failure a common occurance with Rota?
Look long enough and hard enough I"m fairly sure you will find simular examples of high end wheels that also failed.
BTW, I don't have Rota's on my own car, but I wouldn't be afraid to install them if I decided I wanted them.

i wonder if someone from tire rack will chime in thought as to answer the original question.
I had 5 sets of rotas on my previous cars. all daily driven and beaten to hell at tracks. not one single problem. the thing was i didnt have one worry going over potholes, dips and such. i even hit a curb going 50 mph with just a few scratches. the tires was blown to hell, but no cracks or nothing. I just dont understand everyone hating rota, while they sport replica cf hoods, lips, intakes, header, spoilers etc. I could go on and on....
