Default S-03 or RE050

I'm in the market for new tires and there is a special on tire rack right now for approx. 100 bucks off for these tires, and I'm curious for your guys' input.

thanks a lot,
Josh

I'm wondering this myself, which one has better dry traction too?

For the extra $11 per tire, the SO-3's are also rated better in the dry.

I'm thinking about going to SO3s when my OEMs need replacing.

The front SO3's (stock 17") have 1.3 inches greater tread width than the RE050s. The rears have the same tread width as RE050s. This changes the stagger significantly.

Anyone running the SO3s care to comment?

the real question is what are the correct sizes for replacing our stock s02's? I have another thread that's been trying to answer this question and it seems we have hit a crossroads. We need to find out that if by increasing our tire size to match the contact patch of the s02's are we actually decreasing it due to the crown effect that apparently happens due to the tire bieng too wide for the rim?

I think we are talking about 04/05 models w/ 17's, not S02 replacements.

The issue on the RE050's is the narrow fronts.

I'm not sure what you mean by what you're saying. The fronts of the S-03s will have more rubber touching the ground than the RE050s? If so is that a problem?

thanks

Yes, the contact patch would be greater.

The car suspension was designed around the RE050's. Using S03's could change the behavior of the car by significantly reducing understeer. That's why I am trying to get input from people with 04/05 models that have changed from RE050's to S03's.

The RE-050 is the superior tire in the dry, no question about it.
